Winchester 12 Gauge Pump Shotgun Repair: Crack Assessment & Options
Question
I inherited a Winchester 12 ga pump, believe it's a model 93. It has a small hairline crack on top about 1 inch in front of hammer. Where can I get this repaired. Doe's that piece have to be replaced or is there someone who can weld it? It was my Dad's and I would like to use it.
Thanks
Answer
Ron,
The best advise that I can give you is to not fire the shotgun until you can have it inspected by a qualified gunsmith.
You may have a difficult time "replacing" the piece and I'm not at all certain that "welding" will get it done.
If you really want to exhaust all possibilities prior to "retiring" the gun, I'd get in touch with Winchester directly and talk with a service expert to get his/her input.
If there is any chance of a repair to the gun that will allow it to be functional, it should be Winchester who can make the overhaul and get it back to usable condition. www.winchester.com
There is also an individual who restores Winchester firearms who may be able to help you. That is: Winchester Restoration and Repair, Mabel Minnesota 55954 Web Ad: www.winchesterrestoration.com PH: 507-493-5649 E-mail:dustysrr@mabeltel.coop
Good luck and thanks for the question Ron.
