North Carolina Hunting Regulations: Legal Pistols for Private Land

Question
I would like to know what types, calibres and barrel length of pistols I can carry when hunting on private land and also when hunting season is out on the same property looking for signs? I just want to carry an extra sidearm while in the woods.

Answer
These regulations are according to the game laws in your state.  I am in North Carolina. In NC, you can carry a .22LR handgun for hunting small game.  For big game, the caliber of a straight-walled cartridge needs to be at least .38 caliber, and the barrel length needs to be at least 6 inches long.  Muzzle-loading handguns are not allowed for hunting big game in NC.

You need to check the hunting regulations in your state, because they vary.

Hope this helps!

Dave
