Question
It has been 15 years or better since I have skated, and am now in my 50's. I know my ankles are very weak now, and though I totally enjoyed my first time back out, balance was bad and ankles wobbly. Are there any exercises you can do for strengthening them that you recommend. And as I am planning on only going once a week will that be enough to get them back to being less wobbly? Thanks

Answer
Hi Lissa,
Welcome back to skating and yes skating on a regular basis will bring your muscles back and rid the wobbly ankles.  Part of the wobbly ankles was nerves I'm sure but give it a few weeks because the endurance and muscle tone will come back.

I don't really think it's necessary for any extra strengthening exercises because skating alone will bring them back for you.  Just be patient and kind to yourself and you'll see a difference each time you skate.

After about a month of skating if your ankles still feel wobbly, then you may need a boot with more support.  So keep that in mind.

Have fun and if I can help with anything else, feel free to contact me again.
