skating on country roads

Question
I have recently moved to the country and I am having difficulty finding an inline skate that I can use on country roads that do not rattle my teeth out of my head. Alos the roads are very hilly.   Can you offer any suggestions re: wheel size?, hardness of wheels, etc.. I am an average skater at best.  Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions. Sue

Answer
Hi Sue,
I don't ever recommend brands or models of skates, but I'll tell you what you should look for.
First & foremost  is the fit. There is nothing more off putting than an ill fittiing skate. Be prepared to wear the skates for at least 15 minutes in the shop - pressing the ankles & knees first left then right, edging, to see if any sore spots reveal themselves. Make sure the model you choose hugs the ankle for optimum support but comfort in the fit is the most important feature in choosing a skate.
To suite the terrain you specified - I recommend a soft wheel 78A durometer (hardness)- ideal for it's shock absorbtion & sizewise an 80mm  wheel at most, with ABEC 7 or 9 bearings to do the work for you on those hills.I hope this is of some help to you.
