Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I would really really appreciate it if someone can answer my question(s)
We just adopted a wonderful dog. He is a year and half. He loves to go out for walk. About  7 years ago I used to do quad skating a lot. I tried inline skating just for couple minutes to see if I can balance on it I was able to balance on it.
Now my question is that I didn't do skating from all these 7 years I am sure I will be able to balance myself again. I want to take my dog for run and was wondering which skate should I buy inline (I'll be new to it) or quad one?
What do you suggest?
If you suggest inline then can you please answer me(i know it is may be a stupid question) but how do you stop yourself? In quad there is break in front but how do you stop yourself in inline?

Thank you in advance.
ANSWER: Hi,
Congratulations on your new dog.  You'll have a lot of fun taking him for a walk/run on your skates.

They do make both quads and inline skates for outdoor skating so it's really your choice.  I personally would recommend inline skates.  The reason being......you will be able to keep up with your dog a lot easier and not fear catching a pebble or twig under your wheels.

Quads are a little slower and because of the width of the wheel, there's always a chance of something on the street or path that can stop your wheels dead.  Inlines will breeze right through things and you won't have to work as hard at pushing.

It may take you a few times to get use to them but I think you'll be happier in the long run if you plan on running your new dog.

To stop on inlines:  One skate (usually the right one) will have a brake on the back, behind the heel.  Put your feel together, coast, bend your knees, then send the skate (with the brake on it) forward slowly while picking up your toe.  This will put pressure on the brake and slow you down.
The more heel pressure you apply the faster you will stop.

I hope this infomation helps you. If you have any other questions, feel free to write me again.

Good Luck
Pat

QUESTION: Good Morning Pat!

Thank you very much for your reply.

So as you suggest that I should get inline skates. Can you please suggest which inline skates I should get? As you know I'll be new to it and I don't know anything about inline skates, I would really really appreciate it if you can answer this question.

Also, with the new inlines, I'll be able to skate on the side walk of the street, is that right?

Have a wonderful day!!

Answer
Hi,
Since you are new to inline skating, just find one that you like the looks of and fits you well.  Stay within your price range because as you improve and want something better/faster you can always upgrade the wheels and bearings and still keep the same boot you already bought.

The only time you have to be very particular is if your skating for speed or are very experienced.  Don't get the cheapest skate because you won't be happy.  Get something in the mid price range so you can keep it for a long time.

Look for good support and a snug fit.  Also get a skate that has at least a abec 3 bearing rating.  Don't get one with a lower number bearing or you'll have to work to hard at pushing.  The higher the rating number the better the bearing.

Yes, you will be able to skate on the side walks as well as streets or paved walking paths.

Good Luck shopping.......I'm always around if you need anything else.
