Broken binding

2016/7/15 11:37:03

Question
Windlover - I've got a pair of old school K2 5500's that I've gotten pretty attached to. I broke one of the original Salomon 857 bindings last year. Since chances are slim on finding another 857, can you tell me if there is another binding that will utilize the same mounting holes? I bought the 5500's back in '83 during a mid life crises, so I don't need anything too racy......

Answer
Hey Jack,

If anyone could find a binding that would use the same hole pattern as your bindings, they need to play the lottery and their chances of winning the lottery are probably higher. It would be next to impossible to find something with the same hole pattern. That being said, just find some bindings that you feel would suit your needs and mount them. Just find some good epoxy and fill the old holes. It won't affect the skis at all. If you don't plan on mounting different bindings yourself, be sure to check with your local shops to find one that will do it for you.

If you decide to buy used bindings, be sure to check the indemnification list at the link below. If a binding is not on the list, most shops won't mount them or work on them. If a binding is on the list, the manufacturer is still covering the binding and retains responsibility for mechanical failures. If a binding is not on the list, shops would be taking responsibility and most just won't do that as they can't afford the liability.

Hope this helps.
