Question
QUESTION: hello! My daughter is 5 feet and 5 or 6 inches tall. She is 13 years old and weighs around 120 pounds. She wears a 10 shoe and shes pretty skinny. Would she be able to fit into a  jouiners ski or an adult ski or either? We arnt quite sure what size she should get for her skis and boots. Can you help??? Thanks.

ANSWER: Hey Kailey,

I would suggest you go with a womens ski vs. a junior ski. A junior ski is designed to be outgrown where as an adult ski is something she will grow into. Also, the performance and longevity of an adult ski would better match her size and abilities.

As for sizes, boots will be about the same as her shoe size. If it looks like she might grow a size during the season, maybe go a half size larger. As the liner packs out a bit and her foot grows, the adjustment on the buckles will keep her fitting all season.

Ski size will somewhat depend upon the type of skis. If you go with an all mountain or recreational type ski and is a modern shaped ski, then chin to nose is a rule of thumb. Unless she is going to be racing, stay away from slalom skis.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Also for the ski size what size would it be in cm for a recreational beginner skier for her. Thanks.

Answer
Hey Kailey,

All skis are measured in cm, regardless of type or ability. If she is just a beginner, some shops will try to put her on a fat ski or a large sidecut ski (similar to a slalom ski). Just ask for a basic recreational ski with a medium sidecut. As a beginner, you could start her on a little shorter ski, about chest to chin or about 145-155cm.

Hope this helps.
