Question
Hi,
My son just turned 15 and is pretty small for his age - 5'3", 102lbs.  He is on his high school race team and I am looking for some GS skis for him.  He's a excellent skier but as far as racing goes - he only races for high school, not a club or mountain.  Given his height and weight, I've been looking at some junior race GS ski's, particularly the Blizzard World Cup Junior GS Magnesium in size 174.  Can you tell me if you think that's a good choice or should I go with an adult ski.

thanks,
Steph

Answer
Dear Steph --

The Blizzard skis are excellent skis, since he is still in the weight class that is supported by that length ski.  Unless he is a very aggressive skier that damps out the camber, and rides his edge hard, I would not move to an adult racing ski until he weighs more.

The most critical link to keep his sking top notch are his boots.  Ensure they fit well, and have the correct flex for his skiing style and the right cant for his leg bone structure.  Being able to get quickly edge to edge and to hold an edge at speed is as much a factor of correct and well fitting boots as it is the right ski.

Good luck to your son!
