warm/wet glide

2016/7/15 11:38:49

Question
I have been frustrated by warm and wet snow.  With global warming, the snow has not been reliably cold, thus lots of free water in the snowpack.

I find edging in such conditions forceful, and tiring.  My friends tell me just to go dry and abuse my bases, and/or to just ski the steep bumps.  But even then the skidded bump turn is no fun with sticky bases, even dry bases stick for me.

Is there any wax/treatment that will glide on these new snow conditions?

Answer
Hey Julian,

When shopping for ski wax, look for the temperature ratings for the wax. It is referring to the 'snow' temp, not air temp. Look for something for warm snow conditions. It may also mention wet snow. An all conditions wax will work fairly well but warm/wet wax type will be best. If you are set up to hot wax your skis the wax will last longer. If not, just dry rubbing the wax on will work well but you may need to do it two or three times a day. Start by waxing just before skiing and then when they start sticking, wax again.

Hope this helps.
Keep on skiing,
