Snowboarding in Denver area

2016/7/15 11:39:59

Question
Jake,

The wife and I are soon to be Colorado transplants (Denver area, Parker, April 2004). I have used skis before (not sure I'd call it skiing) and the wife has water-ski'd before. We both want to try snowboarding.

We understand that renting is the way to go at first, but if we like it and want to purchase some beginner/intermediate equipment, what would we look for?

Thanks,
Nathan

Answer
Nathan,
Sorry, some computer problems have kept me from answering this sooner.  Renting is definitely the way to do it.  You'll find a place in town called Gart Brothers which rents skis/snowboards at a fairly reasonable price.  You tell them you're skill level, weight, height and they get the right thing for you.  I'm not as knowledgeable about boards, but I imagine it's similar to the process with skis.  After renting a few times, you'll probably know what you want, but there are definitely a few places in town that will work with you to find something that fits your skill level.  Colorado Ski & Golf is a good place to go because everyone there knows what they're talking about and will try to customize to your tastes.  Hit Loveland first for skiing/snowboarding.  It's the closest ski area to Denver and not really known about by tourists, thus it's less crowded and less expensive.  I hope this info helps.  If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
