K2 wheel problem

Question
QUESTION: I've just got a pair of K2 velocity titanium skates -they're great! But today I noticed that the right boots back wheel middle axel thingy is sticking out about 5mm each side. I have tried to get an allen key in each side and twist but the allen key only fits on the outside one, it looks like you need a different shaped key for the inside one. Plus on closer inspection the axel seems to have a metal hexagonal bit which is fitting into the plastic bit of the blade. Is this a problem, and if so please advise as to how to fix, or is this (just occured to me) where you could fit a back brake to the boot?

Many thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Jen,
Not I don't think it will be a problem.  The bolt that you see sticking out is probably a little larger than the others in case you want to put a brake on it...that's normal.

The plastic bit you talked about is used as a spacer for a brake system also.  If you were to put a brake on your skate, it would prevent you from tightening the bolt down too much and possibly bending the frame or binding up the wheels.

You can either leave it on or remove it...either way doesn't matter unless you see that the wheel wobbles.  If it wobbles, then remove it, if it doesn't wobble just leave it alone.

Have fun......enjoy your new skates.  If you need anything else, feel free to write me again.

QUESTION: Ah now I get what a spacer is, thanks Pat.

Could you let me know what tools I need for tightening/changing the wheels, as I said the allen key only fits one side and on the other side there are no nuts for me to grip with pliers, they are all flattened smooth but have this odd shaped square/diamond indent (nearly but not quite fitting the allen key?

What is the tool and where can I get one? (I'm London-based)

Thank-you again,

Jen

Answer
I think your best bet would be to go into a sports store where they sell roller blades and get the advise of one of the employees.  Look for a younger person, they usually know the most about inlines.  They probably sell the other tool that you would need but if not.....they could at least tell you what it's called so you could go to a hardware store to buy one.

Also, if you have a roller rink in your area they could help you.  They would most likely have the tools you would need and they might even remove the sleeve/spacer for you.

If K2 has a web site they would most likely sell the tool also.

Good Luck.......I hope this helps
