what board volume

Question
Hi Windlover,

Since the season is coming to an end I can find boards at 40% off at a local supplier.  I need an upgrade... Ive been windsurfing for two years on a 150 liter rrd.  I can tack, use the harness, and footstraps.  My jibes are iffy.  Ive been on a 115 liter numerous times and it was easy/fun. I weigh 160 pounds and have a 7.5 ,6.0, and 5.2.

I need a board that will do me well in these conditions:
-65% of the days are 9-14 knots, flat
-40% of the days are 15-20 knots, chop 1-3 feet
-5% of the days are 30-40 knots, waves

Im thinking JP supersport 118, or Futura 122 or 111

What volume board would you recommend?

Thank You,
Miho

Answer
Hey Miho,

For your size and conditions, I would say something around 110-115 should work well for you. On the big days, this size would be too big but for the rest of it, something in this range would perform well. You may be pushing it a bit with a 7.5 on a 110 but you being lighter would compensate for a larger sail. It would also depend on how new your sail/mast/boom are. If they are newer and a carbon mast, then it should be a light enough rig. You will also want to work on the waterstarts with a smaller board.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
