fin size

Question
Hi, I am just moving past beginner stage[gybes in light wind ,tacks in med] but in 18 - 22 knot winds I am struggling to control the board, especially in the harness.
My board is a Bic Techno 2 [148 lt] and my largest sail is 6.2. However my fin is a Select, super foil, 50cms.
I am looking to also get another sail in the 6.7 to 7 metre range but after reading some of the comments on the forum should I get a smaller fin?
Cheers.

Answer
Hey Larry,

If the board is seeming to be trying to get out of the water and feeling really squirrly, then your fin may be a bit long for the 6.2. It should work well for a 7+ meter sail. As for going up in sail size, I would recommend at least a 7.0. A 6.7 isn't much change from the 6.2. From about 6.5 and up, the rule of thumb for sail change is about a meter. From 6.0 down it is about a half meter until you get to 4.0 and smaller. Then about 0.3 meters.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
