Question
Hi windlover! I was able to get this mast from my friend and its in good condition, 490/imcs 29 neil pryde integrated rig. my question is will it work with my neil pryde gybe 6.0 sail? Also how do i rig the mast? I seems not to have the lock on the center part to attach the upper part mast with lower half of the mast unlike my f2wing2 mast that has a lock type button to attach the two piece mast.  Another is is this a good mast? Is it reliable?  Thank you very much windlover!!!

Answer
Hey Frederick,

The new mast should work with the 6.0 but to be sure, check along the bottom of the sail for the specs of the sail. There should be something printed that will say Luff or Mast (length), MCS (stiffness), and boom (length to set boom). If the length on the sail is within 20 cm, the length of the mast should work and the MCS on the sail should be within 2. A 29 mast is a fairly stiff mast and if a sail is looking for say a 24 or 25 MCS, then it might not rig properly on a 29 mast. The best thing to do is rig it and see how the sail shapes up.

As for the two pieces not having any type of locking mechanism, 99% of two piece masts do NOT have anything to lock them together. The sail keeps the mast from coming apart. Key thing for two piece masts, when rinsing salt and sand off of sails, rinse the connection area of the mast and the base. Having sand or salt get into the connection can cause the mast to stick together.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
