Value of JP board

Question

Board
I've got a 2001 JP Australia Freeride surfboard that I'd like to sell, but because I don't do surfing and know an absolute zero about it I don't know the value of this board. I'd be happy if You could help :) Here are the specs: L: 275cm/9'0", W: 64cm/25". Volume 129, weight 7.4 kg/16.3 lb. On the board it says it's shaped by Wernie Gnigler. Board is in mint condition, not a single scratch on it. I also have a sail for it. Would someone want it all today?
Thank You in advance.

Answer
Hey Irene,

It is hard for me to put a value on your board for a variety of reasons;

Your location
# of local sailors that would consider buying
Your willingness to negotiate
Your willingness to ship/deliver/show the board
Going prices in your area
Amount of other boards for sail in your area
The type of sail/mast/boom to go with it

As anything that is used, price is always a negotiable thing based on the sellers need to sell and the buyers desire to buy. Someone that specifically wants a board of that type would pay more than someone like me who might show interest but doesn't really need another board. Folks like me are always looking for good condition used gear but, because we already have plenty, our desire to pay is based on getting a great deal. Where I'm at here in the Gorge area, any type of used board a person wants is available so prices tend to be lower. In an area where a board like yours is hard to find, the price could be quite a bit higher.

Do some research via ebay and your local craigslist. Search windsurf, windsurfer, & windsurfing separately to find other gear for sale. Look for similar items that are fairly close to the dimensions of your board and sail. This will give you a price range of similar gear and then, based on the reasons I listed above, you should be able to figure out a reasonable price to start at. If there are other sailors in your area or a local shop, get some pricing advice from them as they would be more tuned into the value of boards in your local area. You can also check craigslist for other cities to get some comparisons. For the Gorge area, look under Portland, OR under sporting goods.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
