buying a new board

2016/7/22 14:40:54

Question
Ive been windsurfing for 3 years on my  old longboard & 5.7 Gaastra sail. The rig is really underpowered. On my lake, the conditions are usually about 8+ knots and I am looking for a new board. I was wondering if a new Starboard I Sonic 115 & 9.0 sail would be be beyond my skill level & if it would work for the type of sailing i am doing.

Answer
It depends on how much you weigh. A 115 liter board with a 9.0 sail would be ok for someone around 130 to 150 lbs.  You would be better off with a bigger board even at that weight.  For 8 knots of wind you would do better on a 125 to 145 liter board with the 9.0 if you weigh in the neighborhood of 140 to 160 lbs.  If you weigh more than that you should be on a larger board.  So if you want more info get back to me with your weight and I can give you more accurate info.
