BIC techno vs Naish Icon

2016/7/22 14:41:28

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I was looking at this package with the BIC techno II or the Naish Icon for Free ride.
I'm between beginner and intermediet :) 160 lbs 5 foot 8 inch. Still working on my jibes and water starts.
Also, which board is better? the BIC or the Naish? Construction, planning, speed, etc...
Which one of them will grow with my skills?
Thanks,
Yaron

ANSWER: You need to tell me what volume these boards are.  Naish does not make the Icon anymore and the Techno comes in a lot of size ranges.  Are these boards you are looking at used or new old stock?  Off the top of my head I like the Naish better but I need more info from you about the size of these boards you have in mind.

QUESTION: Hi,
It's the BIC Techno II 160 Vs the Icon Freeride
or
the BIC Techno II 148 Vs the Icon Freeride 145
Thanks,
Yaron

Answer
I would go with the Naish 145.  At your weight you could even go down to 125 liter board.  I have a friend I sail with who weighs 180lbs and his biggest board is 125 liters with a 7 meter sail. It is good to go on 15 to 20 mph winds.   He can stand and uphaul it no problem in moderate wind.  A smaller board will be much easier to learn waterstarting and jibing on.
