Sail puncture

2016/7/22 14:41:56

Question
Today was the first day out with my new rig....great day!!!!!!!!! until I punctured the membrane....How do I repair it?

Answer
If you punctured it in the clear mylar area you are in luck.  Clean and dry the sail in this area.  Get a roll of clear heavy packing tape. Lay the sail flat in the area of the tear and apply the tape to the tear. Make sure to realign the ripped edges so you don't make a concave area when it is taped.  Try not to get your fingers on the sticky side of the tape as the oils from your skin will  not allow the tape to stick well.  Turn sail over and repeat on the other side.  Make sure to press down all the edges of the tape well and eliminate all air bubbles when you lay down the tape.  If the sail is punctured in the fabric area you will have to take it to a shop and have it repaired.
