Walking along with additional cardio routines

Question
I am a 34 yr old female, 5'5 and 215 lbs. I have a high endurance for exercising but have found that my eating habits are preventing me from my weightloss goal. I do not eat 5 to 6 meals a day, and sometimes find myself skipping meals all together. I walk 4 to 6 miles a day and incorporate bleacher running and still have seen no weight loss. Please help what am I doing wrong, I want the weight off but it just stays with me. My thighs and buttocks is my biggest problem area, I have no problem with tummy fat, and my arms could use some toning, but I have large thighs and butt. Please advise.

Answer
You seem to be doing a lot of things right. However, skipping meals is not a good strategy.

First, keep up the exercise! Next, you need to get a grip on exactly what and how much you are eating. Keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, and write down everything you eat with quantities. Then run the data through a nutrition program (you should be able to find one online, or go to a nutritionist). It should help you identify some patterns, and you might find out you are eating more than you think.

The idea is not to starve yourself. It is far better to try to plan to eat 500 calories less per day than you burn. This will allow you to lose about a pound and a half per week. With slow weight loss you should be able to keep the weight off once it is gone.

This method takes persistence but gives much better long-term results.
