Question
QUESTION: Hi I've been road biking for a couple months now so I'm still learning, but I forgot to put my front tire in my car after a ride and accidentally ran over it. I am now unable to put the tire on my bike and need a new rim i have a Scott speedster bike with Alex race pro 28 rims and am wondering if i have to get those same rims again or is it possible to get different ones? or is it best to get the same one?

Thanks, Carson

ANSWER: Hello Carson,

Welcome to the roadriders!
A Scott Speedster is a very nice bike, and it a waste that you ran over it by accidently.
But that can happen, anyway to rebuild the wheel you can let the local bikestore order the same rim again (because it matches with the other wheel/components).
But you can choose from a lot of different brands like Mavic (the biggest), Alex, Sun.
You can also replace both Alex rims for a lighter wheelset (for example Easton, Campagnolo, Shimano, carbon from Reynolds).
If you do order a other brand, pay attention to the right weight of the rim (often 13 mm for a roadracer).
But are you gonna replace the rim yourselves of do you let the bikeshop work on it?

Hope this will help you further.

Good luck and feel free to ask the next time.

QUESTION: I am going to take it to a bike shop and see if they can fix it because the rim and tire are fine it's just the spokes are bent.  But if I do need to get a new one how much would one cost and if it is more expensive does that nesisarily mean it is better?

Answer
Hello Carson,

I don't know if the rim is damaged by the tension and the ran over. The bikeshop can 'straigten' the spokes/wheel and see if this will work.
A Alex rim isn't that expensive, and in a way you can say that how better the rim how more expensive they are. But that is depending how strong/heavy yourself are.
Heavier riders don't need a lightweight rim, but want a longduring rim.
Lighter riders can ride a ultralight rim/wheelset because the wheels can handle this.

I am curious what the reaction from the bikeshop is...

Good luck
