Gazelle - Champion Mondial - AA Special Frame Road Racing Bicycle

Question

Gazelle pics
Hi Michael,

I'm in possession of a 1984/1985 Gazelle Champion Mondial AA Special Frame bicycle with full Campagnolo components throughout the bike. A very good friend of mine road raced back in the mid 1980's through 1991 and gave me the bike to ride. Unfortunately the bike is too big for me. Below are the dimensions. I'm only 5'8' and bike is way to big for me. I'm looking to sell it so that I can put the money towards a new bike that fits me. Since you work in Amsterdam you are the logical choice since its a Dutch bike to tell me how much I can sell it for.
The bike was purchased from a race bike shop in the state of Wisconsin, in the United States. I was able to find the Gazelle catalog from 1984/1985 but of course it's all in Dutch.

This is a very nice bike and I want to be sure that I get the price that it deserves.
I've attached a picture of the bike.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to evaluate the cost.

Answer
Dear Dan,

Thanks you for asking me this question, "especially" that I'm Dutch lol.
Unfortunately this bike is too big for you, when it wasn't you could ride it for a long time.
It is like you said a Dutch brand, a royal one. We called it over here Royal Gazelle, because the brand exist more than 110 years now.
To answer your question about a selling is very rare and I can't answer this because;
1. I don't know the state of the paintwork
2. I don't know the state of the Campagnolo parts
3. I don't know the state of maintenance

So for me it is difficult to tell you a certain selling price, but what I do know is that there are
a lot of collector's in the world and especially the USA who like the Campy parts and the vintage steel frameset. Both is very attractive for them.
When my points 1 %26 2 were very good to excellent you could ask a very high price, but still a price is depending of the one who offers you the price (often based on emotion).
Just take a look at Campyonly.com, there are the forums many collectors actif to find new bikes like yours.

I hope that this answers your expectations, maybe not for the price but it offers you new sights
in the Dutch brand and selling your nice bike.

Good luck, and maybe you'll think of me when you received a nice amount for it!

Best regards,

Mike
