Question

What is your opinion of a good bike for riding on forest service roads and paved roads. I do not intend to do much, if any single track mountain biking. I am a small woman. I have a 6 year old REI mountain bike; when I began searching for a new bike I was confused about the difference between a hybrid and a mountain bike. Thank You for your help.

Answer
A hybrid is designed for riding on paved streets but with upright handlebars. It will also have a bit more shock absorbtion, but with fatter tires and a less aggressive tread. If the forest service roads are very hard packed, then a hybrid may work for you. Otherwise I would recommend getting something with more of a suspension system to deal with the bumps of unpaved roads. But you might go with a less aggressive tread for paved road riding.Hope this helpsScott<>
