Question
I find it difficult to get up steep hills.  I jog 1 hour every day, but still haven't enough steam to get up the hills.  How do you train or attack the hill to get up them?

Answer
I don't like steep either, up or down. I'm also not the best hill climber. In fact, I was on a ride in my area today that is pretty hilly.

My strategy with hills is as follows. First I try to attack them. I'll try to build up my speed as much as possible on the previous downhill or flat and try to get the momentum to carry me up as far as it can. As I lose that momentum I'll shift down step by step until I reach my lowest gear. At that point I'll just push the pedals until my momentum gets too low and then I walk.

On todays ride I walked a few times. I was also up in Vermont for July 4th weekend and walked a few times there.

Hope this helps,
Scott<>
