Troubleshooting: Why Won't My 1982 Mercury Outboard Start?

I have an 1982 astro glass mercury, boat it will not start it wants to.

Dear Gloria,

Of course many things can be wrong to cause a boat not to start but if it is a 2-cycle motor I would first check the gas float to see if it has fuel, and if it does then change the spark plugs.  You can also use a little spray start in the air intake.  If you get it started I would put some 揝ea Foam?gas conditioner in your tank to clean the carburetor as the engine runs.
