Paint vs. gel coat

2016/7/15 18:26:01

Question
Would it be possible to sand down the gel coat on an entire boat and reapply gel coat,or would it be better to go with a marine grade paint?

Answer
Dear Michael,

New Gel coat makes a great bottom repair but is a skill job.  It is best applied by spray and the mixing and application can leave drips and streaks when errors are made.

It is easier to just use a bottom paint.  The bottom paints are much thinner and you don't have to worry about thickness issues.  If you get drips they are thin and can sand out easily.  For some good bottom paint you can go to www.boat-bottom-paint.com
