steering froze

2016/7/15 18:30:31

Question
Boat hasn't been used in a while. Tried to turn steering wheel and no go. Is there a way I can free the motor without having to take it to a mechanic. Thanks in advance... Randy

Answer
Hi Randy...Thanks for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.

I presume you mean seized, not frozen, because there's a big difference. I suggest you disconnect and then introduce some WD40 or similar type of chemical that will penetrate corrosion and loosen up the cable from both the steering wheel and engine connections. This may do the job, but failing positive results, you could be obliged to replace the entire cable. Check it out with a marine mechanic.
