tachometer reading backwards

2016/7/16 9:27:21

Question
I just took the boat out from winter storage and the tachometer is running counterclockwise instead of clockwise.  It was running fine prior to setting up.  What could be the cause of this?  Suzuki multi function tachometer.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Rhonda

Thank you for selecting the undersigned to respond to your question.

I'm not a marine mechanic, but often, spiders or other little things get into the sending tube and obstruct its sending ability, which might be the cause for your problem. They hibernate over winter months in convenient locations that create difficulties for us come the spring. There's no rhime nor reason, but one must check out all sources. People wonder why their engine air intake or
exhaust hoses are not working properly. It's because those little critters find a spot to create a problem. Failing that, I'm not quite sure what to suggest, other taking the boat to a qualified marine mechanic and have them check it out and find a diagnosis.
