galloping in training

2016/7/15 11:23:50

Question
Dear Ed,
How much did You galloping your sprinter horses in training? Did You work interval trainings and how often?
Thank You

Answer
hi well every horse is different so you will have to train each a little different then the other. if i had a sprinter then i would gallop 1 1/2 miles a day at a very easy gallop.but once they started to race i would adjust the training to fit the horse. if the horse already has the speed then i would train to keep them fit and only work them if they hadn't run in 30 days or so. i would usually work them the distance they were to run like 6 fur work for a 6 fur race about  1 week before the race.i also use to rope a horse in a sand ring for 1/2 hr a day while in training to race. had a lot of luck with that. hope this helps you. thanks ED HESS
