Question
What is song/tune is played at the start of a race and what instrument is it played on?

Answer
Hi Pat,
I have been asked this question several times. Its difficult to answer as there are quite a few tunes used in different parts of the world.
Usually it is a stirring tune suitable for the heralds trumpet or hunting horn on which it is usually played.
We use the introduction to 1812 Overture or Charge Of The Light Brigade.
You could ask this as a blanket question to all the big clubs around the world. You are sure to get a variety of answers.
Check on Jockey.com for the email addresses of the main clubs and see how you get on.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
