greatest horse

QUESTION: Has there been in past history a derby racehorse that has stood above the rest?  Who would be the top three greatest racing horses?

ANSWER: Hello:

If you polled analysts from my generation (racetrack regulars since 1970), most would probably consider Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Spectacular Bid among the greatest racehorses ever.  Triple Crown winner, Affirmed, would likely finish a close fourth.  Certainly, "old-timers" such as Citation, Count Fleet and Northern Dancer would also merit recognition.  I'm quite sure I left out a few; maybe others can weigh in on the subject.

QUESTION: Considering track conditions would vary from race to race, which horse would be the best overall?  Secretariat?

Also, do you think these horses were in any way juiced?  If so, what was used?

I would probably say that Secretariat was the best horse ever.  But that, obviously, is just one man's opinion.

I would NEVER discount the possibility of any horse being "juiced."  There are numerous illegal drugs and steroids in use at any given moment - and it is impossible to test for all of them.
