Question
Howdy Ed!

First, let me thank you for your time and knowledge you and others share on this site.

I was wondering if you have any suggestions for preparing myself physically to be a exercise rider? I have been riding for over 15 years but honestly, I am not in my prime. For the past 5 years I have just been pleasure riding so I know it will take a bit more demand on my body and I want to be ready. I know anything will help, especially running and squats but do you know of any other specific exercises to suggest?

Thank You,
Jamie

Answer
hi -- well all the exercise you mentioned will def help keep you in  shape, but reg work with the horses, galloping every day and using your leg mussels will also help keep you fit for galloping. riding a bike also will keep your legs in good shape as you need to have strong legs to support  yourself on top of the horse. good diet, no smoking or drinking, plenty of good sleep etc all will go towards making you a good rider in the future. hope this helps you some  thanks ED HESS
