Horse Death:(

Question
My 2yr old colt was gored by a longhorn steer on the inside right thigh. My vet told me it passed through the muscle and it should heal nicely, but needless to say my colt passed away due to colic. I know that lack of mobility can cause colic, as well as stress, Would it be safe to say that the injury caused by the longhorn is what killed my horse? Can a horse colic due to the stress and discomfort of a severe injury?

Thanks
Coy

Answer
COY,
I WOULD HAVE TO SAY NO TO YOUR INJURY/COLIC THEORY.
DEPENDING ON HOW SEVERE, IF THE HORSE WAS CONFINED TO A SMALL STALL OR IN PASTURE AND BEING CARED FOR AS PRESCRIBED. YES NATURALY THE ANIMAL WAS IN A STRESSED STATE AND VITALS(BODY TEMP. ECT.), FEED AND WATER MAY HAVE HAD TO HAVE BEEN MONITORED ALONG WITH THE PROGRESS OF HEALING ON A DAILY BASIS FOR A WHILE .
ALSO COY I HAVE SEEN COLIC IN THESE HORSES GO AND COME WITH LITTLE SYMPTOMS IF AT ALL. I AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS COY AND I PRAY THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 2 YR. OLD,MAY MAY HAVE BEEN AN ACT OF NATURE OR THE ACTUAL "STRAIN" EXERTED DURING THE ACCIDENT ITSELF (SOME THING TWISTED ON THE INSIDES) AND NOT THE FAULT OF ANY PERSON.
