changing lead - mild or hard crack

Question
QUESTION: hello sir, if the jockey wants his mount to change the lead, should he give a mild tap with the whip on the rump or a terrible crack?

ANSWER: HI  WELL MOST JOCKEYS CAN USE THEIR HANDS OR FEET TO MAKE THE HORSE CHANGE LEADS IN A RACE. I DON'T THINK A WHIP WOULD MAKE HIM CHANGE LEADS , BUT MIGHT MAKE HIM TAKE OFF FROM THE WHIP. A GOOD JOCKEY CAN MAKE A HORSE CHANGE LEADS AT THE RIGHT SPOT IN THE RACE. THANKS ED HESS

QUESTION: sir, may i know how jockeys change the lead by using their hands and feet? i mean, where do they put pressure on the horse to change its lead?

Answer
hi --- a good jock can just simply use some pressure like on the horses shoulder with their toe and the horse will respond to that touch if he has been trained to do so. also the way they use their hands on the horses neck can also make a horse change their leads. THANKS ED HESS
