Thanks for your question.  Although I feel that I am not qualified to answer your question, since it is out of my area of expertise, I will say this.  Studies have shown that stress fractures occur mostly during training and mostly to 2-3 year old males.  I would thoroughly recommend that you do a "google search" on "equine stress fractures" and you will find any number of things that may or may not cause the problem.  If I may be of further assistance, please advise.
