Considering a partnership

Question
I am considering investing in racehorse partnerships and am looking for advice regarding what to look for in a good partnership and what to stay away from.

I intend to begin by reading everything I can about the thoroughbred racing industry and then researching the various organizations/individuals who are offering partnerships -- recommendations regarding both would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that there are significant financial risks involved in this type of investment and I would like to do as much as I can to mitigate the risk and make wise decisions.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Answer
hi--  well i have been in the horse buisness for over 40 years and i would advise against any kind of partnership. but that is just my advise. if you really want to own a trace horse  then buy one for yourself and find you a good hard working trainer  that will work hard for you and your horse.  you will have to look into all of the costs of owning and racing a horse, which these days can be quite expensive. you will have to buy the horse----pay for the vaning if you need to transport the horse.. and the shoeing and the vet bills, plus the dailey training fee. you are going to have to really love horses and the racing game to want to get into the buisness. i have done it for over 40 years and loved every minute of it. partnerships do not usually work because everyone concerned has to agree on the same thing, and that is almost impossible. where to race the horse and for how much money, who to ride the horse  what tracks to race at, and that leaves the trainer in a hard spot, because he has to think of the horse first and the owner second.  i don't mean to push off the idea of woning a race horse as it is a great experience, but just look into it very carefully first, then decide . hope i heloed you out  thanks for your quwstion   ED HESS
