Calf Pain After Running

2016/7/22 10:06:28

Question
I am running track in high school right now.  A couple weeks ago, the back of my calves started hurting a little bit when I ran.  I figured it was probably just because I wasn't used to running every day, but it has gotten a lot worse.  I am also on the color guard, and after our halftime performance, just running off the field made my calves hurt a lot.  It didn't hurt while I ran; it started hurting after I stopped and sat down, but it didn't go away for at least 5 or 10 minutes.
I thought I might have shin splints, but the area that's hurting is the back of my leg, not the front.  Could it still be shin splints, or is it something else, and what can I do to help it?

Answer
Hi Sami
You do not have shin splints. You just have strained the calf muscle. You should ice it as often as you can and also take 500mg vit C with your 3 meals a day.You might have to to take a a few days or week to let it heal up,but i don't no how severe it is.You can't train threw it.You have to proceed with caution.Do not take any medication of any sort they just mask the problem and give you a false sense of security that it is getting better. It has to heal naturally.

All the best

John
