Heal Pain wont go away

2016/7/22 10:07:52

Question
Hi, I'm afraid I might have a case of plantar fasciitis - heel pain in the morning and after sitting. I'm a marathoner and have been running since Jr High, I'm nearly 45.

It's so tough not running, I've stopped altogether for about 2.5 months. And now I'm gaining weight because the other work outs (biking, swimming, lifting weights, running stairs just don't give me the level of intensity I need)Plus I love running.

Any advice you can give will certainly help as my doctor told me to stop running and that was it.

Thank you very much. I look forward to your response.
Sonya

Answer
Hi Sonya
The one thing your doing running stairs is is not a good thing to do.Biking and swimming are great for your situation. It is a very serious injury which is basically a tearing of the cover of the foot. The most important thing is a great deal of patience. The things that help recovery is a lot of icing, epson salt soaks,500mg vit C with your 3 meals a day, massage. The one thing you don't want to do is if offered by a doctor is a cortisone shot.It just takes time Sonya.I had it myself years ago and i know how you feel.It is part of the downside of being a runner and learning how to deal with the rehabb. If you have other questions just get in touch Sonya.

All the best

John
