I'm 39 years old, haven't run regularly in the last couple of years, but on and off, but I have trained regularly on eliptical machines and gym cycles. In the last few weeks I have started to run and participated in the 5.6k corporate challenge race and suprised myself with a decent result of 27:30. I'd like to start running regularly with the goal of running a marathon somewhere sometime next year. I know specific marathon training takes 3-4 month, so how should I be running until then, should I combine speed/intervals , run on treadmills ?
Many thanks

Hi Eran
There is really no magic.Based on your time in the challenge, you have more than enough speed.Your focus should be just being consistent and gradually get your mileage up.It is like building a house. The first thing after you develope your blue print with time and dates for completion of the event, you want to develope a very solid foundation. This is where all the good stuff comes from, and gets you to the finish line in one piece with a successfull experience without injury. This phase could easilly last 4 to 5 months depending on your fitness background and your abilty to be consistent and keep your focus.I would do your running outside, and just start putting in the miles.I hope this helps Eran.If their is anything else just get in touch. If you want to let go of some cash,i would enjoy putting you into my program.

The very best to you

John

Answer
Great to see you again Eran
First thing, forget the doctors. They are totally ignorant when it comes to sports injuries. My prescription is strech ,strech ,strech. The real bottom line is practice preventive exercises if you you want to be a serious athlete for many years to come.JUST THINK ABOUT YOUR OPTIONS.Not a fun picture.Get my picture.

Your the best Eran
