Respectable sprinting times.

Question
Hello.

Firstly, thank you for providing answers to questions.

Hm... you ask that questioners provide some background, which is unnecessary for my question, but i will anyway.

My name is willem, i am 17 years old, 175 pounds, i wake up early every day and excersize about an hour, 6 days every week. Half of which i spend running, the other three i do extensive bodyweight excersizes. I do roadwork one day, excersizes the next, like so.

I know i am not the fastest runner, my mile time hovers around 7:10,  although it gets faster every month. I was wondering what common sprnting distances were, and what a respectable time would be for each. Such as there is the 50 yard dash, which i run in a little less than 10 seconds. Is this any good? My slow mile time makes me wary of entering any school competitions, but i would enjoy it if you could give me some distances and good times so i can see if i perhaps excel in a certain area.

Thank you again for your selfless helping of others.

-Willem

Answer
Willem,

Your mile time of 7:00 is a far better time than ten seconds for 50 meters. For your size, the time is respectable and I would think that with proper training, you could get it down close to 6:00. Have you thought about trying the discuss or shot put???
