Question
My 14 year old daughter has been running cross country. The coach has them alternate distance (up to 7 miles so far) with sprints (1000's). She has started complaining about her hip constantly popping every time she walks. It is also causing some pain. I told her to take today off to rest, could this be more serious?

Answer
Hi Nancy
The answer is YES if you you don't address the situation. All injury's have the potential to be serious if you don't make ajustments along the way. Also problems come on slowly,so you can track back when it started and identifiy the workouts. If i new more and talked to her i could zero in quite quickly. It could be the illiotibial band, but would need more info in regards to her training diary to make a good assesment and provide a recovery prescription. If you want to talk there would be no charge, and you can get my contact on my web site.Let me know how i can help.I'm hear from 5:30 am on.This should not be taken lightly.

The very best

John
