marathon running after gastroenteritis

Question
I have recently had gastro - 5 days ago, with severe vomitting lasting roughly 6 hrs and then recoverd gradually since. I am supposed to be running the Gold Coast Marathon in 36 hrs time - have done a light run this am and normal duties otherwise.  Is is still ok to run or am I still likely to be electrolyte depleted?

Answer
Answer:  Hi Jane
I see no reason why you can't make a go of it.The worst is you might have to stop.I would not run anymore till the marathon, and just eat lightly and cool any heavy protein which is very contributes to dehydration and gastro. problems,a long with fiber foods.Just hydrate with sport drinks and plain water and don't stress out, which is also contributory to your situation.Just take it easy early on when the gun goes and enjoy your run.Even pace is your best bet to finish based on your training.I would love to know how you did Jane if you get a chance.

To a successfull finish
with no problems

John
