effect of back pain

Question
Novelist here.  Hope this is simple query.  I have a character in my story - 35-y-o male, no major health problems or chronic conditions. Non-smoker. He regularly exercises, likes to jog a mile or so about 2-3 times/weekly.  However, the character has a little lower back pain for a few days while he "recovers" from  helping another character with "moving chores" from one house to another.  No grand piano or giant furniture, just schlepping boxes and stuff. QUESTION:   is it realistic that he can still jog/run normally, despite a little nagging lumbar ache like this?  Or, is it more realistic the character would adjust and do some power-walk or race-walk instead, for a few days?    thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Jack
Going for a run would be perfectly alright. In fact running is very good for the back since it strengthens the paraspinial muscles that run on either side of the spine for support. The only thing i would do after helping out his friend is just lie down and stretch out his back. You can also do it just before he goes for his run.Now do i get a mention in your book and a  copy.Just kidding jack.Hope this fits for your book.

All the best

John
