Cross Country Advice

Question
Hi. I'm in Cross Country at my middle school and I was on "A" team until I strained something in my right leg (I'm pretty sure it was my tendon) and my asthma started to really bother me (wheezing, shortage of breath, etc.). At meets, I went from finishing in 7th place all the way to finishing 28th. It's really pathetic when you think about it. Somedays I will wake up with hardly any pain in my leg and other days I can barely walk on it. Is cross country damaging my body? Should I quit? My asthma has been fine the past 4 months until now. I haven't been hospitalized by cross country or anything extreme, but I'm usually in pain while running and especially afterwards. I try to take as less asprin and Tylenol as possible. I run about 1.5-2 miles every morning and (depending on the day) between 2-5 miles in the afternoon. On Sundays, I walk the trail instead of running/jogging it. Are there any excercises that I can do for my leg? Should I see a doctor? And is there anything you know which could help me with my asthma while running?
Thank you SO MUCH!
-Cassi

Answer
Cassi,
You should definitely see a doctor.  I have two reasons too.  First, your doctor can give you an inhaler to control your asthma if it gets bad and can also give you an inhaler to improve your asthma.  Second, you need your leg looked at by a doctor.  It may need rehabilitation, so don't be suprised to hear that you need physical therapy.
I hope that this helps.  Best of luck.
Ryan
