Question
hello i am in high school and my pe teacher is making us learn a new sport i chose rock climbing. i would like to know all the rules of rock climbing and three skills associated with rock climbing also keywords or explanations of how to perform the skill thank you very much for your help

Answer
Christelle,

I'm sorry if this response is too late for your assignment, I never received an e-mail that it was pending and just saw your question while answering another.

There really aren't any rules besides sticking to the predetermined route and not pulling on the rope to help yourself up, but that can also be OK depending on the type of climbing that you're doing.  Basically, the goal is to get to the top.

Three skills I would associate with climbing are endurance, strength, and focus.  Endurance because some routes are very long.  Strength because you need to be pretty strong in relation to your body weight to climbing the hardest routes.  And focus because it's important to concentrate on exactly what you're doing because one misstep and you could fall.

In regards to the keywords and explanations of skills, I'd like to refer you to a book called Mountaineering:  Freedom of the Hills.  It's often referred to as the climbers bible, and is available at most major book stores.

Thanks for the question and sorry again if this is too late.

Nick
