too unfit to climb?

2016/7/22 8:47:43

Question
i've been invited to climb (indoors) by a very cute guy, but i'm mid-30s & pretty unfit in a cardio sense (e.g. can jog for about 3/4 mins maximum).  I've always been quite a walker, so am hoping my legs are in reasonable condition - i'm just concerned how the cardio /stamina will affect a beginners climb.  i'm also a coupla stone overweight (5'7") - is that likely to be an issue?
basically, how much will i embarrass myself??

Answer
Well, the good thing is that climbing accommodates participants of every level.  You shouldn't feel pressured to climb the same routes that he does.  If it's a decent gym that he's taking you to, they should have many climbs that you can try.  From what I've seen, cardio doesn't effect beginners as much as lack of hand strength.  Just remember to keep your weight on you feet and legs as much as possible and breath.

Good luck,
Nick
