Beginner Rock Climbing in Bay Area, California

2016/7/22 8:48:28

Question
I am planning to go for a beginner's rock climbing lesson the coming weekend. Just wanted to know if you knew any good places to learn for a beginner in Bay Area, California.

Answer
There are a couple of choices for climbing areas in the Bay Area.  If you are in the south bay, Castle Rock State Park is your best bet; it is on Skyline Blvd off of Highway 9.
For east bay climbing, there are about four small rocks in Berkeley that can be top-roped.
There is some climbing on Mickeys Beach outside of San Francisco as well, but from what I remember, it is all pretty hard stuff.
Try to find copies of the guidebooks "Bay Area Rock" and "Climbers Guide to Skyline Blvd" for more information on climbing areas and routes.
