Question
What seperates ice climbing from regular climbing? besides the fact that it is ice. i am doing a project on rock climbing and such for school, so any information would help.

thanks
Naomi

Answer
There are a few main difference between these.
The first one is technique. Technique in both climbing and ice climbing is made up from the type of muscles u use and when u use them. Ice climbing uses more arm muscles and at the same time it puts strain on ur calfs. It is a completely different way of moving to defy gravity if u like.
The general movement on the rock is different to the ice and this could be because of a simple reason like increased clothing for warmth.
A big difference is that in climbing more often than not u are relying on ur feet to do the work and using ur hands for balance. With ice climbing it is the opposite and effectically can be some times alot more draining. This is why u never see anyone soloing an ice climb.
I cant think of any other difference but if i come across any i shall try and get back to u as quick as possible.
I hope that i have helped.
Let me know if i can do anymore.
Let me know how it goes!!
Good Luck!!
