Question
Good day,
My name is Lindsay and I am working on a project for my Information Technology class.  I was hoping that you might help me.  My research question is: ?what makes a good rock climber?  Part of my research involves finding experts on the Internet.  I would really appreciate you answering a few questions for me.  I will take the information you provide me, compare it with what others have said and with other research findings, make some conclusions about my question, and then create a Web site.
You need to be aware that I may be using any information you provide me on my Web site, but that I will keep your name confidential.  My Web site should be published by the middle of June and will be available on our school Web site (www.cmsweb.ca).
Here are my questions:
?  What makes a good rock climber?
?  What is the best type of gear you can get?
?  What strategies are there that people should use
?  How can you learn how to climb?

My email address is [email protected] Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with my research.

A note from my teacher:
Please know that by helping this student you will be helping with research and not doing the student's homework for him or her.  I have structured this project to include research by emailing experts.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected]

Answer
Dear Lindsay,

1.  A good rock climber must be sensitive to all that's going on in the mountain world.  A good rock climber must know his or her limits and must be able to exceed them in emergency situations.  Finally, a good rock climber must respect the cliff and take no move or situation for granted. Ego kills.

2.I prefer Black Diamond equipment.  It's well designed and always five times stronger than it needs to be.

3. Efficiency in technique and rope management builds controlled speed.  Controlled speed means safety and enjoyment in the world's high places.

4. It's best to sign up with a reputable school or climbing gym for beginning lessons.  After that, a wise and experienced mentor/partner is irreplaceable.

Good luck on your assignment!

Yours,

  Robert Walton
