Rowing scholarship

Question
Hi! :)
I'm a sophomore in florida and i'm at my third year of rowing. I weigh about 115 pounds and i'm 5'7. My last erg score was an 8:18.8 . I really want to go to a lightweight rowing college and get some scholarship money from doing so. My unweighted GPA is a 3.8. I'm really scared because i don't if my erg time is good enough to get recruited. Is it? If not by how much do I need to improve?
Which colleges offer lightweight rowing scholarships?
Thanks :)
And will colleges be more likely to accept me if my lightweight 8 makes it to junior nationals?
Thanks so much!
Dk

Answer
Hi Danielle: Your time is better than average (8:30) for lightweights your age.  I think if you gained 10 to 12 pounds of muscle, you could get your time down to the 8:00 zone, which would make you more recruitable.

To get a scholarship, your grades and racing experience are more important than your erg scores.

With your grades and rowing experience, even if you don't get a scholarship, I think any crew would love to have you as a walk-on.  However, the reality of college rowing is that not too many schools offer ladies lightweight programs and even fewer offer scholarship.  The ones that do are big programs like Wisconsin, U. of Washington, Stanford, Georgetown and Syracuse.

Good Luck/AP
