Pre-high school

Question
I have been rowing for two years; I am now in 8th grade. I am currently 180 cms (5:11) and 151 pounds. My 2K pt is 7:32. I have been told that to get recruited to a top school I need to be 6:30 at Junior year. Is it realistic I can get to that point. It is more than a minute? My grades are very good.

Answer
Hi Steen: Based on yout current time, I project you to hit about 6:45 by junior year.  But that is a modest estimate -- you could easily smash that and break the 6:30 barrier.  Of course, starting as young as you did, you have a huge head start over most high school rowers.  You also could grow some more and put on muscle; after all, you are a but thin for your frame.

There are other factors besides erg scores for getting recruited.  Grades is one.  On water racing experience and success is another.

Good Luck/AP
